Anne et Valentin BAKKELITE

BAKKELITE

For the BAKKELITE concept, the Anne & Valentin design studio explored a deliberately retro language — confidently so — but reimagined, liberated, and sublimely precise in its material execution. Each eyewear model tips its hat to Art Deco, conjuring echoes of a time when every detail carried weight.

These are assertive, character-driven frames — graphic, rounded, refined. The fronts are sculpted, traced with fluid, undulating grooves that enhance and structure the face. These striations emphasize or outline the geometry of each frame, catching the light, amplifying the material’s depth. The upper edges are gently domed. Temples feature raised relief motifs for a distinctive, continuous flow. Finishes are bold, unmistakable — creating not just style, but a true visual signature. The result is a sophisticated whole with understated elegance.

Though the volumes lean soft and rounded, the lines remain taut and dynamic, striking a contrast between vibration and stillness, warmth and clarity — that draws the eye and lights up the face. Colors come in nuanced tonal blends, subtly distinguishing fronts from temples. The palette swirls like classic cocktails reimagined by fearless mixologists. Four small dots add a final, dashing touch to each temple tip.

Inspired by an Art Deco chair spotted in a hotel — its lines full of momentum — as well as by checkers pieces and 1950s radios, BAKKELITE creations are objects that call, rather than recall. They reach back to a golden age — the Roaring Twenties — when every detail brought soul to a space.

These sculptural glasses glow with a polished finish that doesn’t blind but glows, and settles into time — evoking a sense of quiet luxury and lasting creativity that’s anything but fake. The kind that came before throwaway plastic and fast design.
